Everyone knows that lavender makes a lovely spray and an effective essential oil. But did you know you can add it to sweet treats and drinks too? Lavender is fresh, somewhat minty, and tastes similar to rosemary in many ways. So if you like a sprig of something herby in your gin cocktails, I think you’ll enjoy these lovely lavender recipes.
1. Lavender Earl Grey Cookies
Aren’t these cookies the most adorable things?! I love the way they look, and they taste even better. They’re chewy, soft, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. They also have a flowery, buttery flavor that’s perfect with coffee or tea. And despite how fantastic they look, they’re effortless to make. You should be able to make an entire batch in less than an hour.
2. Lavender Lemonade
Lavender lemonade has all the sweetly tart flavor of genuine lemonade. However, it’s much prettier. Its lovely purple color is enchanting. Besides being a bit sweeter, it doesn’t taste much different than regular lemonade. It’s cool, crisp, and refreshing, and it smells beautiful to boot.
3. Blackberry Lavender Naked Cake with White Chocolate Buttercream
This gorgeous dessert features layers of light, fluffy cake and sticky blackberry jam. Its bright taste is perfect for summer, and the buttercream frosting is divine. In fact, the frosting’s richness is the ideal complement to the tartness of the berries. It’s one of the few buttercream cakes I’ve had that isn’t too rich. Trust me on this one; you’ll love it. Oh, and yes, there’s lavender in there, too! But in this dessert, it takes a backseat to everything else.
4. Lavender Ice Cream
Lavender ice cream is creamy, smooth, and lightly flavored. The fresh, minty flower makes it a delightful summer treat. Additionally, the sprigs of lavender make it look lovely. It’s a simple addition to an otherwise plain-looking dessert, but it makes all the difference.
5. Lavender Tea
Lavender tea may not look all that impressive – after all, it doesn’t turn the water bright purple or anything like that. But it is pretty good for you. It takes a little over five minutes to prepare, tastes warm and fresh. You can drink it cold if you prefer, but I think it works best hot. Although it tastes good, you won’t drink it for the flavor. Instead, drink it for its numerous proven benefits, including:
It helps you sleep better. It can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. It eases PMS symptoms.
It may even help relieve surgery pain! If those aren’t reasons enough to drink it, I’m not sure what would be.
6. Lavender Shortbread Cookies
These remind me of the lavender Earl Grey cookies above; only these have a more traditional shortbread flavor. They’re extremely buttery and have a relatively mild taste. The lavender gives them a bit of extra sweetness, and you’ll add it to the cookies themselves and the glaze. It’s a double dose of floral deliciousness, and you’ll appreciate every bite.
7. Lemon Lavender Muffins
These lemony muffins aren’t as tart and zesty as you’d think because the almond milk/powdered sugar glaze adds a lot of sweetness. The lavender adds some freshness, while the vanilla, honey, and sugar in the batter help combat the tartness. These have a bright, light flavor that’s perfect for breakfast or dessert. Plus, their dense, fluffy consistency makes them melt on your tongue. Give them a try, even if you’re not a fan of lemon desserts. You might find that you like them more than you’d think.
8. Lavender Lemon Bars
Unlike the muffins above, these lemon bars are pretty zingy. The crust is soft and buttery, but the filling is pure lemon. The lavender helps soften it some, but it’s still a vibrant and bold citrus tart. If you’re looking for a sweet treat that doubles as a morning pick-me-up, this is it.
9. Simple Homemade Lavender Syrup
This three-ingredient syrup looks almost gray in the container. Fortunately, there’s nothing drab about its taste. It has a bright, fresh, somewhat floral flavor that smells as good as it tastes. You can make it in 15 minutes or less, and it keeps in the fridge for two weeks. Use it in desserts, drinks, cocktails, or as an ice cream topping. It’s terrific in anything. And, of course, nothing is stopping you from adding a touch of purple coloring to the mix if you want it brighter!
10. Lemon Lavender Gin Spritz
So you made the lavender syrup, and it smells incredible. But now what? Well, how about putting it to good use in this gin spritz? This two-toned purple and white drink is excellent for summer. It has a bright, tart taste and is incredibly refreshing. It’s like lemonade, only with a gin and lavender boost. Sip on it by the pool, and everyone will want to try it.
11. No-Bake Lemon Lavender Tart
What is it about lemon and lavender that pair so nicely together? Perhaps it’s how the lavender’s freshness complements the lemon’s sourness. Whatever it is, these two ingredients just work. If you think so, too, then you’ll love this no-bake tart. Its crunchy crust is 100% gluten-free and 150% scrumptious. And the bright, zingy filling has just a hint of lavender. This isn’t the quintessential springtime dessert, but it should be!
12. Triple Chocolate Lavender Brownies
You won’t see the lavender in these thick, fudgy brownies, but you will taste it. Still, these things are decadent chocolate through and through. There’s the faintest hint of floral beneath the chocolate’s richness, turning them from “really good” to “unbelievably fantastic.”
13. Lavender Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting
Sometimes the simplest things can be the most elegant. And nothing exemplifies that as well as these stunning cupcakes. The cream cheese frosting is sweet and rich, and the cupcakes are light, flowery, and fluffy. You’ll decorate each one with a tiny sprig of lavender, making them delicate, lavish treats that are perfect for a formal occasion. Consider them the next time you’re planning a wedding, anniversary, or banquet.
14. Honey Lavender Cheesecake
This cheesecake has the same simple appearance as the cupcakes with its tan crust, white filling, and sprig of lavender on top. And just like the cupcakes, it’s beautiful in its simplicity. Set it on the table for brunch, spring, or summer dessert, and people will rave about it.
15. Lavender Lemon Macarons
These pretty, light purple macarons are ideal for baby showers. They look phenomenal and have the lightest, brightest taste. Each one is lemony, flowery, and honey-sweet. Serve them with iced tea or tall glasses of lemonade. Just be aware that people won’t be able to eat only one.
16. Lavender Creme Brulee
Creme brulee is such a fancy, fantastic dessert. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of cracking the caramelized sugar coating. This one is just as creamy and delicious as any you’ve tried. The only difference is that you’ll infuse it with sweet, aromatic lavender. It doesn’t change the overall flavor a ton, but there’s just enough change there to notice it. Don’t worry, though; it’s a change that you’ll appreciate.
17. Lavender Blueberry Galette
This blueberry galette has a crunchy, buttery crust and a bold blueberry filling. That alone is delicious enough. However, you’ll take it one step further by adding dried lavender. It gives the galette a delightful aroma that smells amazing as it’s cooking. It also provides a fresh, flowery taste that practically screams, “Spring is here!” Enjoy it with friends, or make it for yourself. No one will judge you for devouring the whole thing. I’m tempted to do that every time I make it! Click on a star to rate it!
