Apples, butter, and cinnamon. You can also use sweetener (maple syrup, honey, Splenda, Stevia, or brown sugar) but it’s completely optional. But there are a lot of tasty treats that you can whip up in the microwave! Perfect for when you’re craving something sweet but don’t want to fire up the oven. These baked apples are perfect for an evening treat after dinner. But they’re also great for breakfast. On top of oatmeal, pancakes, or crepes. You can also add raisins or chopped nuts. It’s amazing how whole, fresh apples turn into a warm, satisfying dessert after just a few minutes in the microwave.
How to Make Microwaved Apples
Core and chop your apple into bite-size pieces. I love Gala apples, but you can use just about anything. Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith all work well for baking. Mix in some melted butter, cinnamon, and sweetener of choice. Microwave for 2 to 4 minutes depending on how tender you want them to be. I like mine to still have a little bit of crunch so I usually microwave them for 2 minutes. But if you want yours a little more cooked, 3 to 4 minutes will do the trick. Of course, the cook time will also be dependent on the size of your apples and the wattage of your microwave. Once they’re ready, let the apples cool for a few minutes and then finish it off with your desired toppings. I personally love a scoop of ice cream on top. You can also use whipped cream. And of course, it’s also delicious all by itself. Who knew that fruits could be so tasty!
So, what’s the difference between microwave baked apples and oven-baked apples?
In the microwave, baked apples actually come out a lot more attractive than they do in the oven. The apples keep more of their color and shape. Plus, the juices don’t evaporate from the dish.
